Mountain Homeplace , a living history village depicting the life of those who lived on the Appalachian plateau in the mid 1800s. Off KY-40 at Paintsville Lake, (606) 297-1850

Van Lear Back

Coal Camp Museum in Van Lear is housed in the original Consolidation Coal Company office building. The museum depicts coal camp life, including  the original doctor's office. A 40-foot scale model shows the camp as it was during the 1920s

Tour the Augusta Dils York Mansion , perched on a bluff overlooking the town. This magnificent home, begun in 1912 and completed two decades later, has a tile roof, terrazzo floors and many original furnishings

The Elkhorn City Railroad Museum on Pine Street has memorabilia from the time when the town was a major railroad interchange, including a caboose, meters, switch stands, lanterns and a velocipede.
