James Elliot Stewart is buried in Lawrence County, KY, In the Buchanan Chapel Cemetery located off US 23 north of Louisa, KY. GPS Bearing N38 deg 12.724' & W082 deg 36.114'. Drive 7.1 miles on US 23 north of the US 23 & Hwy 3 Intersection north of Louisa, KY. Turn right on Zelda Loop Road (Old US 23) and drive 0.5 miles and turn left on Buchanan Chapel Road.  Proven patriot by the NSDAR.

James was a drummer-boy when he was nine years old, during the early Revolution. Later he was stationed at Fort Lee, now Charleston, W.Va. where he served under Capt. Hugh Caperton of Greenbrier Co., Va guarding the Kanawha settlements against Indian attacks.  James later served in the Ky militia, Company C. ( Source Lawrence County, Ky. Cemeteries, Vol 3, 1997)
