Membership Requirements
Who is Eligible - Any man of the age of eighteen years or over, who is a lineal descendant of an ancestor who supported the War for American Independence is eligible for membership in the Sons of the American Revolution. These ancestors are referred to as Revolutionary War Patriots and include those persons who fought in the military and/or county militia, who provided supplies to the American cause, who served on political bodies supporting the Revolution, who signed oaths of support and similar acts.
How to Apply - Applications for regular membership are to be made through the local Sons of the American Revolution chapter and be accepted by the National Society prior to being inducted into the state society and local chapter. The SAR Application Form must include copies of actual documents that prove the parent to child relationship between each generation from the applicant to the Patriot Ancestor listed on the SAR Application Form. The application must also be accompanied by a check to the National Society and a check to the State Society for the application fees and dues for the year in which the application is approved.
