May 20, 2012, 2:00 PM. Grave marking ceremony to honor Revolutionary War Patriot Thomas Pinson, Sr. at the Pinson Cemetery, 5188 Hwy 194 W, Pikeville, KY. The ceremony to be conducted by the Big Sandy Chapter Sons of the American Revolution, with Officers presiding: President Dr. Larry M. Leslie and Chancellor, Honorable John David Preston. A reception with refreshments will follow at the Community Center across the highway from the ceremony.
Thomas Pinson and family arrived in the Johns Creek/Bent Branch areas in 1796 to be among the first settlers at this location in Pike County.
Directions for those traveling from Prestonsburg toward Pikeville: Follow US 23 S to the new Airport Road turn left Hwy 2061 (wit caution as the road needs repair at that turn), drive 3 miles toward Hwy 194, make a right turn and go East 2.3 miles, turn Left into the Church of Christ parking lot, near the intersection of 194 and 3227 (Joes Creek Road).
